Tips on deciding a business name:
How are you going to use your name?
Do you have a general theme for the business, or are you just trying to think of something clever?
What state are you starting in, i.e., New York, California, etc.?
How do the laws affect names that you want to use?
How does the name sound over the phone?
How clear is it if it is spelled out?
How will people say it when they tell others about your company? For example, Xtreme Stunts may be easier said than Extreme Stunts.
Will people recognize your name because of industry associations or specific trends or fads currently popular with customers, such as technology companies called “On Line” or “Net”? Big words can sometimes

1. How do you want to be remembered? How will your name contribute to the team, the product or the service?
2. How will it help sell your products or services? Will it help build credibility within your market?
3. What affect does that have on how people think of your business and/or its brand(s)? Do they remember it, feel differently about it, etc.?
4. How much are you willing to spend on the name registration outside of any legal fees or filing costs? How many names can you afford before deciding which one is best for you? Non-trademarked names are usually less expensive because there are no official filings required with each state for ownership protection.
