It can be difficult to get into, but it is so worth the effort you put in. Everyone has a hectic day at work and coming home and trying to meditate for 20 minutes is next to impossible!

A cool (or warm) room, dim lights and somewhere comfortable like on your yoga mat or even better under your duvet. If you find yourself too alert after meditation try dimming the lights further or invest in relaxation light bulb which emits soft warm light.

Now that you have chosen a suitable room and dimmed the lights, make sure to remove any possible distractions like your phone or laptop.

Start to relax by thinking of something enjoyable, when you feel your muscles relaxing start to breathe deeply through your nose and focus on breathing in and out slowly. This is where mediation can be troublesome: getting distracted by random thoughts. If this happens try to bring yourself back to focusing on breathing slowly in and out with deep breaths through your nose.

How long should I meditate for?
Meditate for no longer than 10 minutes at a time. If you find yourself falling asleep aim for 5 minutes to start with and slowly build up. Experiment to find out how long you can meditate for. Start with five minutes and slowly build this time up over the weeks, months or even years. You might feel like meditation isn’t working but don’t forget that it takes 21 days of doing something to form a habit so stick at it! And there you have it! A simple way to start your journey into mediation. If you are still struggling to start your daily practice then look into some other mediation apps which will help you get started. Do not try and multitask while meditating, turn off everything what could distract you do just one thing – meditate. : Finally, don’t beat yourself up if you can only meditate for one minute. Meditation has no rules and you should always do what works best for you!
